Welcome to the Chordalizer

This is a place to discover the world of chords. Turn the dial, listen, and find the sounds you like. Then arrange your favourites into a basic chord track that you can give to a friend to play, or take into a DAW such as Logic or GarageBand and develop into your own piece.

  1. Find a chord. Turn the outer ring to choose the root note and the inner dial to choose the type of chord. You can also type or say a chord in the box at the top.
  2. Listen and compare. Try different inversions, octaves and bass notes. The chord family shows which chords belong together in a key.
  3. Save it. Press + Save to keep a chord. Your saved chords appear in the bar at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Build your track. Open the Song builder to place your chords in bars and sections, then export a MIDI file or a chord sheet.
Why it stays simple

The Chordalizer is built to help you learn how chords work, not to do the creative work for you. It won’t write melodies, rhythms or accompaniment patterns, and it isn’t going to grow into something that does as time goes on. Those ideas are yours to develop. The more time you spend listening and choosing here, the more the music you make will be your own.
